How to Summer Proof Your Nails!

Sun, seawater and sand can dehydrate the nail plate, making it susceptible to breaking. Pools with chlorine can also dry out our nails. Our nail expert Lynn Mason went on Instagram live last week to give her top tips on how to keep your manicure looking great all summer long. Here is what she had to say:

An important part of having a long lasting manicure is how you are applying it. Here are Lynn’s recommended steps:

• Always use a base coat. A base coat can act as a primer to make your polish last longer. One of our top selling base coats is 002 Protective Base Coat. What’s great about this product is that it doesn’t set completely. Instead, this base coat remains tacky and sticky, making it the ideal base for your colour.
• Next apply two thin coats of colour. Always take care and attention during that first layer. What’s great about the brushes in our mini-colours is that they are smaller, giving you more control when applying.
• Then apply top coat. Lynn’s favourite top coat is our Colour-Fix. This top coat gives a brilliant shine to the nails. Additionally, it contains acrilyn which gives flexibility to the nail. This is important as it helps prevent cracks in the polish.
• Lastly, finish by applying an oil seal dryer. This is for your cuticles. Apply around the base of nail and then hold your hand upside down so it drips down towards the tips. Our oil seal dryer contains cotton oil which hydrates your cuticles.

Lynns top tips for maintaining your manicure for longer are:

• Reapply topcoat every other day. As you go along every day, you are slowly grazing away the top layer of your topcoat. this is expedited with materials like sand. When the top coat has been removed, the colour becomes susceptible to chipping. By reapplying your topcoat you are reinforcing your manicures endurability and shine.
• Regularly apply nailactan. Keeping your nails moisturised in important when in hotter climates. Apply our nailactan to the base of the nail as this is where the nail cells are produced. How you look after the base of your nail affects how it will grow out. Apply a small amount to the base of the nail and massage in and leave on. This can also be applied over gel nails.
